Our Greek Erasmus experiences / Bouschra and Merixtell

Thanks to the Erasmus+ project of Consorcio Barcelona 2021, 4 students from the López Vicuña Center in Barcelona left for Athens, where our Greek partner SBIE organised for them a one-month internship experience they will not forget!

In this article we’ll read the stories of 2 of them, that worked in a local pharmacy during those 30 days.

Bouschra’s experience

During my academic journey, I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in an Erasmus programme, which allowed me to live an unforgettable experience in Athens.

From the moment I arrived in Athens, I was fascinated by the history and culture of the city. My stay in Athens was not only about living in a new place, but I also had the opportunity to gain practical experience in my field of study, pharmacy.

The internship at the pharmacy was a fundamental part of my Erasmus experience, as it gave me the opportunity to apply my theoretical knowledge in a professional and multicultural environment.

My internship was at the company PHARMACY KATIA CHRISTODOULOU. I am very grateful to Katia for her close treatment and dedication in teaching me from the very first moment. I have felt very comfortable working with her and apart from the professional aspect she won me over due to the big heart she has. I am very grateful to her, as It is not easy to do an internship in another country with a completely different language, but thanks to her everything has been much easier.

I learnt how to manage the stock of medicines and pharmaceutical products, making sure that there was enough availability and that the products were stored properly. This experience taught me the importance of organisation and planning in the pharmaceutical environment.

Apart from my internship experience, what I highlight the most about Erasmus is the personal learning. I have learned how to live with other people who, in my case, I didn’t know at all and I met them on the same day of the flight. I have also learned to be more responsible when it comes to shopping, cooking and cleaning a flat. Also, the fact of “finding my own way” when communicating with people or getting to a place, thanks to this I have improved my level of English, that I even knew more than I thought.

My Erasmus experience in Athens was an exciting and transforming phase in my life. I have met amazing people, made long-term friendships and learnt practical skills in my studies. Athens gave me opportunities to grow both academically and personally. This experience left me with everlasting memories and an incredible appreciation for this Greek city. I recommend to all students to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Erasmus programme, as it is an experience that for sure will change their lives forever, because that’s what happened to me.

Merixtell’s experience

My Erasmus+ experience has been an unforgettable one. It was the first time I spent so much time away from home and the first time I lived alone with another person.

I really enjoyed this experience, even though I think I would have enjoyed it more without the internship, but that’s what Erasmus+ is about.

Greece is a very nice country, although nowadays, after a crisis, I think that it is not the best Erasmus destination as life is very expensive compared to, in my case, Spain.

I enjoyed a lot visiting the place, but what I really loved was the gastronomy. Greek cuisine is similar to Spanish cuisine, as it is still a Mediterranean diet. I think that the dish I ate the most was gyros, which is similar to durum, but the meat is different and it is wrapped in pita bread. It also has fried potatoes inside.

Regarding the internship, I was not very satisfied with it, because I was cleaning the whole pharmacy from the first day and, when I finished, the remaining days I was sitting all the hours without doing much. At the end I asked if I could stop coming and they said yes, so I was a week without the internship because they told me that I couldn’t help much more as I didn’t know the Greek language.
